How to DIY Customize Our Facemasks for Your Skin Type

As a new mom and a business owner, I’m all about multi-tasking. I don’t just expect it from myself either, I want it from my products too. I use coconut oil for cooking and as a moisturizer, wine to drink and cook with, and it’s one of the reasons I made our face masks customizable and in powder form.

Simply Polished facemasks are designed in powder form for 2 reasons:

  1. Since the ingredients are all-natural, keeping them in powder form helps the shelf life to last longer.
  2. You can add DIY ingredients to help your skin out, no matter what mood it’s in.

You may have thought that you can only add water to our dry masks but there’s so much more you can do. Mixing any of our powder masks with these 7 liquids can customize your face mask to exactly what your skin needs that day. Besides, we all have seen first hand how the different seasons, activities, and food we eat can affect our skin (for better or worse). Our skin needs can change from day-to-day, so we made sure our masks do too.

How to get the most out of your facemask

First, be sure to choose the mask type that most closely aligns with your everyday skincare needs. ALIGN for normal or combination skin (think not too dry and not too acne-prone, but could be a little brighter), GLOW for dry or sensitive skin, and REHAB for oily or acne-prone.

To customize the mask for your skin type get a bowl out for your mask and add 1tsp of the powder, a little bit of the liquid of your choice (see below for details), and a few drops of water. It’s hard to be completely precise here since the different liquids need a different amount to make the mask, but you’re looking for a paste-like consistency. Mix together in a bowl.

Then, wash your face and while your pores are still warm and open after you’ve lightly dried the skin off, apply the mask with a clean brush or clean hands (clean being the most important part here). Careful to avoid the eyes and mouth— our ingredients are natural but we can’t promise they taste great.

Here’s how to DIY customize our facemasks to your skins needs:

Aloe Vera Juice - tightens pores | heals acne scars | balances pH levels

Apple Cider Vinegar - exfoliates | tightens pores | soothes itchy, dry skin | restores pH. Important note: Be sure to dilute with extra water (1-part AC 2-parts H2O)

Raw Honey - moisturizing | antibacterial | antifungal properties | fights acne

Rosewater - balancing | moisturizing | soothes redness | gently tightens pores | great for sensitive and dry skin

Yogurt - non-abrasive exfoliant | softening | evens out skin tone

Lemon Juice - boosts circulation | brightening | reduces blotchiness |  not suitable for dry or sensitive skin
Important note: Be sure to dilute with extra water.

Green Tea - anti-aging | prevent and repair cell damage | promotes healthy cell turnover | tightens pores | moisturizing | soothes inflammation and puffiness

No matter what mood your skins in that day, you can be sure that your mask is going to give it exactly what it needs with these customizations.
